I did it! I completed my very first official 5K! I mean I had a number attached to me and everything! I was number 37 and it felt so cool to actually attach a number to the front of my shirt. Kind of silly I know, but it made me feel marathonish! I have to say I am sooooooo proud of all my Weight Watcher friends and family! They were awesome and inspiring. Check out the picture above. Click on it for the full size version. We had so much fun. I really want to thank Karen and Shanta for inspiring us and pulling this all together. They ran of course...I walked! We have lots of great photos. I can't put them all here so check out this site for all the cool pictures of our Weight Watcher group. My goal for this 5K was to just finish it. I came in last walking but I finished strong with a wonderful group of friends! We really did have a blast.
Oh, I really want to congratulate Karen! She came in 2nd running in her age group! She got a little award and everything! We were so proud of her when they announced her name! My time was exactly double hers! LOL...She rocks and has done so well. I am not sure she realizes just how big an inspiration she is to all of us. Now, not did she just come in second....when she finished she came back to mile 2.5 and walked with us the rest of the way in! How cool was that! Then we turned another corner, and here comes the rest of our WW crowd, coming to great us to bring it all in! I am so fortunate to have met such wonderful people! It really touches my heart.
Okay...enough mushy stuff..So as we were walking (in last place), we got to talking and laughing and realized we were being beat in this race by people wearing jeans! Yes, several people wore their jeans (they were walking of course) but we were all decked out in sweats and appropriate athletic attire. I guess I thought it might make a difference. I mean, we wanted to look a little athletic! So yes, I was beaten in a race by people wearing jeans!
We came up with a couple of different slogans as we walked in last place and lost sight of people in front...
Yes, we actually had all that happen to us today! Okay, maybe not the last one, but we were well prepared! We actually walked the last mile with a car behind us that had flashing lights on! This was very ironic for me as you see....I started my morning going to my Weight Watcher meeting and was followed by flashing lights for actually going too fast! Yes, the nice officer politely wrote me a ticket and did not find it too funny when I said I was going to a race and must have started a little early! Oh well, I was not going to let it ruin my morning! Then during the actual race, I was followed by flashing lights for going too slow! Wow, what a day! But you know, it's not about what happens to you, it is about how you react to what happens. I had one hell of a fun day! Thanks again to all my friends and family and thanks Rhonda for surprising me and showing up to walk!
